The NZSIA has been certifying snowsports instructors since 1971.
It has an excellent reputation internationally.
The Instructor Training Co.'s programs are designed to train you for the NZSIA Level 1 and the NZSIA Level 2 certifications.
So you will be sitting two qualifications.
NZSIA qualifications
NZSIA Level 1:-
The Level 1 is a 4 day exam.
The Level 1 is at a lower level than the Level 2 and it is designed to help you on your way to the Level 2 qualification. The focus is on the lower levels of teaching, with specific focus on your class handling abilities, your presentation skills and a specific children's teaching section.
The NZSIA Level 1 is a prerequisite before you can go forward to the Level 2.
All our courses are designed to train you for the NZSIA Level 1 and the NZSIA Level 2 qualifications.
(please not the prior to 2009 the NZSIA Level 1 was called the Certificate in Snowsports Instruction - CSI)
NZSIA Level 2:-
For Ski - The Level 2 course is run over 8 days. It is an examination of your skiing ability, your ability to demonstrate good ski technique and your ability to look at, analyse and develop beginner to intermediate skiers.
The qualification covers from entry level skiers through to those who can make a basic parallel turn with a pole plant.
During the exam you will be tested on three areas
Free skiing (your own level/ability)
Demonstrations of Wedge, Wedge Christie and Basic parallel turns
Your teaching ability, an on snow teaching presentation and a test of your skier analysis/lesson planning
For you to become a Certified NZSIA instructor you must pass all three of the above sections.
During the The Instructor Training Co.’s program we will be training you to improve your skiing as well as understanding "the movements of skiing" so that you can develop your own skiing and begin to learn how to apply this to other less experienced skiers.
For Snowboard - The Level 1 course is run over 5 days. It is an examination of your snowboarding ability, your ability to demonstrate snowboard technique and your ability to look at, analyse and develop beginner to intermediate snowboarders.
The qualification covers from entry level riders through to those who can make good strong, linked edge turns, on groomed terrain.
During the exam you will be tested on three areas
Freeriding (your own level/ability)
a minimum level of freestyle manoeuvres
Demonstrations of the basic manoeuvres required when teaching snowboarding
Your teaching ability, an on snow teaching presentation and a test of your rider analysis/lesson planning
For you to become a Certified NZSIA instructor you must pass all four of the above sections.
During The Instructor Training Co.’s program we will be training you to improve your riding as well as understanding "the movements of snowboarding" so that you can develop your own riding and begin to learn how to apply this to other less experienced boarders.
(please note that prior to 2009 the NZSIA Level 2 was known as the Stage 1)
All of your trainers during The Instructor Training Co.'s program will be qualified NZSIA instructors, who will be working independently of the NZSIA, however they may be involved with your final exam, in which case they will be at that time working for the NZSIA.
In the years to come after your NZSIA Level 2 there are plenty more options.
